Linz→Munich – 12 Jun 2024
There wasn’t a lot of spectacular scenery on the trip to Munich; here are a few photos.
Isartor
I got in early and wandered around the hotel area for a while. The hotel is near the Isartor (Isar Gate); the Isar is the river where Munich is situated. (By the way, Isar is often a word used in crossword puzzles.)
I found where the rent-a-bike stand was; here are some of the sayings on the bikes:
More pictures from around the area, crossing a bridge, and finding a tunnel with graffiti:
The hotel
It’s pretty nice. I’m on the 2nd floor above ground (3rd floor in US):
Marienplatz
After getting situated, I took the S-Bahn to Marienplatz, where people were gathering to celebrate the EU Football competition. There were a lot of people from Scotland. One of them was playing the German national anthem on bagpipes. I enjoy bagpipe music—for about 30 seconds, so I have gotten that out of my system for the rest of the year. I decided not to hang around there too long; soccer fans + lots of alochol consumed = possibly not a place I’d like to be. At any rate, here are pictures from the plaza:
Amusing story: on the way back to the hotel, I saw these two guys and asked them (in German) where Tal street was. They looked at me and said they were from Scotland and didn’t speak German. So I asked them in English and (of course) they had no idea. Finally I asked some older German man, and he told me I was on the street and headed in the correct direction.
