Linz – 09 Jun 2024
Ars Electronica Center
Headed out there in the late morning; here are some pictures along the way.
It’s a women’s clothing store named “Linzerie”.
Each of the “fingers” is a fountain.
Near the bridge, a plaque that reads something like: “With the crossing of this bridge in 1945, the horrible expulsion for tens of thousands of Sudeten-Germans ended.”
Off in the distance, Pöstlingberg.
The Museum
Makes you want to sing tunes from “Showboat.”
Inside the Center
Model of hydrogen/oxygen power generation.
An exoskeleton.
Prosthetic fingers.
Model of the folded geometry of the universe. How they figured it out, I got no clue.
Bio ink: various microorganisms forming colonies that are visible
The museum had a whole section dedicated to AI:
Non-facial portrait
Computer vision finds where a person’s face and limbs are.
Silhouette detector.
A 2018 study from Stanford where AI was able to classify people as gay or straight by their photos.
And a section devoted to music and AI:
Replica of a music-making machine
Antique player piano
Altstadt / Linzer Schloss (Old City / Linz Castle)
I was trying to get back to the hotel, but found a sign for Altstadt and started following it. I ended up at the Linz Castle.
Door to the Bishop’s Court (Bischofshof)
I passed by one school with two famous graduates: Anton Bruckner (composer) and Christian Doppler (yeah, that guy that has the “effect” named after him). Also, a place where Mozart lived.
Anyway, onward...
Count Joachim Enzmilner von Windhaag (1660-1678) and his two wives. You go, playa!
The castle museum.
Model of Linz before the fire of 1800
Great views from the castle museum.

If you want change, you must choose change.
No, OG does not stand for “original gangsta”—it’s
Obergeschoss, meaning
upper floor.
Shaaa[r]p Shaaa[r]per (German word for
sheep is
Schaf.)
Advert for an investment house called “Superfund”. If it’s involved with blockchain, then having a name that (in the US) is associated with toxic waste dumps is totally appropriate.
