Kingston, NY–8 June 2015
More pictures from the Kingston area. The third picture is the Rondout lighthouse.
Hyde Park
We went to Hyde Park and saw the FDR Library and Museum.
This sculpture was made from parts of the Berlin Wall, and was created by Sir Winston Churchill’s granddaughter.
More pictures from the museum area.
The museum had a special exhibit showing gifts that have been given to U.S. Presidents. The third picture shows a cel from a Walt Disney movie and a set of spurs from Roy Rogers.
This is a portrait of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, made with a typewriter.
These pictures are from the rest of the museum.
One of the other visitors to the museum saw this sculpture of Eleanor Roosevelt and said, “I didn’t know they had a statue of Jimmy Carter here.”
These aren’t in the museum collection, but they looked interesting. I have never seen green traffic cones before, but apparently they do exist.
Vanderbilt Mansion
We were headed to the Vanderbilt Mansion and came in the back way and saw this coach house, which has been converted to a maintenance storage facility.
Here are pictures from the mansion area proper.
...and the Italian Gardens. What a USGS observation station is doing there, I have no clue.
There is a very steep hill near the parking area. They don’t want people sledding down it in the winter.
Rheinbeck/Kingston
We went shopping a bit in Rheinbeck, and saw this interesting cigarette disposal (something you don’t see in California much if at all).
The remaining photos are from Kingston.
I call this one “Kingstonehenge.”
