Washington DC–June 03, 2016
I spent only a couple of days in Washington DC to attend the Reason Rally, a gathering of atheists, humanists, and secularists. These pictures are from the day before the rally. First, some pictures to anger both Democrats and Republicans.
As always my first stop was the Hirshhorn Museum. The first picture is of a plant outside the Natural History Museum that caught my eye. The next ones are from a sculpture in the sculpture garden across from the museum.
I was disappointed for the first time by the museum. Usually the second and third floors have sculpture around the inner circumference of the building, but the sculptures had been moved from the second to third floor to make room for a sort of line drawing that went all the way around the building (no pictures of it; it did not impress me enough), and the third floor was closed to install a new exhibit. What they did have on the second floor was an exhibit by some guy who did the kind of art that I categorize as “You call this junk ‘art’?”The experience was redeemed by the exhibit in the basement; some films grouped under the title of Suspended Animation. One of them, a movie titled Warm, warm, warm spring mouths by Ed Atkins, was weird, but fascinating. I liked it in spite of myself. The video was set to a poem titled The Morning Roundup by Gilbert Sorrentino. Again, I am no great fan of poetry, but I liked it in spite of myself.
Finally, this quote from Malcolm X:
Miscellanea
Went to the headquarters of the Human Rights Campaign and got a picture of myself there.
Signage
This logo on a truck was just adorable. Yes, you PETA members may send me angry emails now.
