Hong Kong/Singapore–June 9, 2023

Travel day, so not a lot of pictures. This work was in Hong Kong; it’s by Fung, Wing-kee (2020)

The entry process for Singapore is very disorganized. As opposed to Hong Kong, where we were given forms to fill out on the plane, we weren’t given any information about the process for Singapore. Instead, I had to go to a kiosk and use a tablet to enter information. The user interface was terrible. It had a form where I had to fill in the name of the person I was traveling with, and there were no instructions on how to fill it in if the traveler is alone. Luckily, there was some guy from Immigration who was helping us with this.

Then, I wanted to take the subway to get downtown to the hotel. I went to one of the ticket machines, expecting to be able to buy the E-Z link card there (just as I bought an Octopus card in Hong Kong). But no. A sign on the machine said to buy the card from the passenger service centre, which was about 20 meters away. Then I had to go back to the machine to add value to make sure I had enough money on the card to make the trip. After that, the trip went pretty well.

The vertical spacing of the sign makes it look like the dots on the lower case i s in the bottom line are shared with letters in the top line.

And finally, the hotel room and a view out the window.
