FOSDEM–1 February 2015
Today’s talks were much better. One of them was about a language called Rust, and this was one of the more amusing slides:
Another excellent speaker was Larry Wall, the inventor of the Perl programming language.
A lot of companies had tables set up with their stuff. Speaking of Perl, they had a large plush camel (the best-known Perl book has a camel on its cover).
The KDE people were displaying their latest and greatest desktop environment.
O’Reilly Media had books for sale, and two of them that I had worked on were available.
Doudou Linux, a distribution designed for children, was there.
OpenSuSE had this nice poster with their logo/mascot chameleon (named “Geeko”).
At the main infodesk, these chocolates with a penguin on them were available. (These are apparently something the Belfine chocolate company makes normally; they weren’t made especially for the conference.)
ULB
The Université libre de Bruxelles was the site for the conference; here are some pictures of their campus.
Signage
I saw this poster from what appears to be some sort of employees’ union; the text reads “How are you doing at the end of the month?” The subtitle reads “Our job is to defend yours.”
