Singapore–June 12, 2023
On a friend’s recommendation, I went to the Peranakan Museum. What is a Peranakan, you might ask? “In Singapore today, the term ‘Peranakan’ generally refers to a person of mixed Chinese and Malay/Indonesian heritage.”
Here are some pictures on the way there.
Now, on to the interior of the museum. It’s fairly small, and it’s well curated, but it didn’t do much for me, to be honest.
Some wall art near the museum:
It started raining a few minutes after I left, so I took shelter in a food court area at SMU (Singapore Management University, not Southern Methodist University) where I had a really great salad for S$6.00:
Chinatown
For a later meal, I went to the Chinatown Market Complex. I ended up at a stall that had one Michelin star, which, it appears, means “edible but undistinguished.”
Other views in the Chinatown area:

Gracious Commuting
OK, here’s more of Bag-Down Benny, Stand-Up Stacey, and their other companions, who are apparently part of some gracious commuting ad campaign.
Bird
I’ve seen several of these black birds with yellow beaks. I have no idea what kind of bird they are. Who do I look like? John Audubon? (Actually, I hope not. Turns out Audubon was a really awful person.)
Later: I think it’s a Javan Myna.
