Today was the first day of Animegacon, and I decided I would drive to the LVH (formerly the Las Vegas Hilton) rather than take my bicycle. I got to the parking garage at about 11:00 a.m., and then the door locks wouldn’t work, and I couldn’t get the car to power up. I went to get my registration badge, and then called AAA. The guy came out, took a quick look, and said the battery had died. There was also an incredible odor of rotten eggs, so he said that the battery was probably leaking something. He jump-started the battery, and told me where to find the nearest Toyota dealership (about 3 miles east on Sahara from the hotel). The dealership was really great; they gave me a free bottle of water, and I walked on back to the hotel. I stayed there for a couple of hours, then decided to take the bus back to the dealership. My car was ready at 4:30 p.m., and now I am feeling a lot happier.
In point of fact, it was really lucky that it happened today; if I had decided to use my bicycle, I might not have had the problem until Saturday, or worse, Sunday while driving home, only to have my car battery dead in East Jesus with no dealerships open.
At the convention, this one guy stopped me and said, “I was in your Psych 18 class a couple of semesters ago, but had to drop out because I was ill. Now I’m living in Los Angeles. How’s things?” This was totally unexpected.
Here are some pictures from the convention. The last two are somewhat odd; I heard a lot of laughter and commotion in a room where there was supposedly a panel discussion on how to do patterns for costumes. It had somehow turned into people (total strangers to one another) lifting each other and doing trust-building exercises. It was strange, but fun.
