Los Angeles–11 June 2017
#Resist March
Instead of a parade with floats, etc. as per usual, LA Pride organized the #Resist march to protest anti-LGBTQ+ legislation. As you can see from the picture at the website, the march was incredibly well attended. The one bad point of the day was that the march (scheduled to start at 8 a.m.) didn’t get started until 9:30 a.m.—and that was the speechmaking.
Here are some of the speakers:
Here are some of the people and the protest signs; the ones that aren’t safe for work (because of “strong language” are on the next page.
The Babadook
There seems to be a horror film about some entity called “The Babadook,” which, for some strange reason, has become a gay icon. Sure enough, it showed up at the march, and was an instant hit with the participants:
End of March Rally
The rally had some fairly high-powered speakers:
After the March
Some pictures I took on the way back from the march. There are places where you can rent a bicycle; here are the slightly suggestive adverts on the side of the bicycle basket:
The first couple of these pictures show that Los Angeles / Hollywood is really serious about its movies and the Emmy awards. The sculpture is titled “The Family,” by David Green.
There is an artist named Wrdsmith who does some wonderful stuff on utility boxes. If you can’t read the text on the last picture, here is a link to the text.
Miscellaneous Pictures
Various street art, and a creative spelling in the last photo.
