The Days of the Week
Οι ημέρες της εβδομάδας είναι: (The days of the week are:)
Just for grins, see an explanation of how the Greek phrase above was constructed.
Sunday | Κυριακή |
Monday | Δευτέρα |
Tuesday | Τρίτη |
Wednesday | Τετάρτη |
Thursday | Πέμπτη |
Friday | Παρασκευή |
Saturday | Σάββατο |
Sunday is the first day, and Saturday the last. This is why the words for Monday through Friday bear a strong resemblance to the numbers 2 through 5. (Review the numbers section.) This is not a coincidence.
If you’re like me, and always think of weeks as starting on Monday, you’ll have to take a little extra thinking time, or you’ll be off-by-one every time you make an appointment!
Extra note: All of the days of the week are feminine except for
Σάββατοwhich is neuter.
