On Monday I went to downtown Tlaquepaque, which is part of the greater Guadalajara area. It has a large number of art galleries.
The “E” means “estacionamiento,” (parking). The Spanish text reads, “Tires punctured for free.”
Our Schedule
We open when we arrive,
we close when we leave,
and if you come and we aren’t here,
then we aren’t getting together.
This is the rotunda in the center of Tlaquepaque. (Sorry, this picture did not come out as well as I wanted.)
Here are two statues of (I think) the same priest. The first one has the glasses broken off, making him look like he’s stoned. The second statue is much better.
The costume has fans built into the back for ventilation so that the person wearing it doesn’t pass out on hot days.
About a block or two off the main drag is a mural in the style of Diego Rivera. It represents the history of Mexico during the artist’s lifteime.
The outsides of the stores are quite artistic. (Hover over pictures to see captions).
I simply adored this set of sculptures; the fact that it was raining at the time made the effect even better.
Here are some sculptures in front of stores and in the main square.
If you find yourself in Tlaquepaque and want some ice cream, I highly recommend this place. I got a huge cone at a decent price. They aren’t kidding about hand-made. They were churning the stuff while I was there.
Finally, some miscellaneous pictures.
