Los Angeles 2011 - 10 August

I rode out to Pasadena today, where I saw this interesting bridge, a sign that gets straight to the point, and a wonderful item on a store roof:

Bridge over Los Angeles river with circular “hoop” section. Neon sign for cafe that just says “EAT.” “Comics vs. Toys” store sign; on roof is a statue of a cow in a spiderman outfit.

There was a really spectacular view from a freeway overpass:

These are from the Chocolate and Temptations store in Old Pasadena:

Many of these pictures are things you will see on this walking tour.

On the way to a shopping mall, I saw this advertisement:

And then this tilework on a fountain:

Scrollwork on a theater, and on a storefront.

I liked the architecture of this church:

Section of church showing tower with bells attached and a curving stone projection at left

The crescent-shaped obects on this building rotate, whether on their own or with the wind, I’m not sure.

Three crescent-shaped sculptures (yellow, blue, and red) that rotate in wind, mounted on pointy pylons

Many of these pictures are things you will see on this walking tour. I really liked the Mobius Bench (first picture); didn’t try to sit on it, but it did not look like it would be particularly comfortable.

“Mobius Bench 2,” a large bench that twists like a mobius strip View down corridor framed by metal archways Tile mosaic of a red footbridge Trapezoidal metal overhang with colored “windows” The Motion of the Planet/For Richard Feynmann; tilework showing Feynmann and planetary objects Bicycle racks in the shape of bicycles “Everyday People”, photos of people

These are actually impressions in the concrete (the fish, obviously; the leaf, not so obviously).

And finally, this advertisement on a bus stop back in Los Angeles.
