Innsbruck–October 8, 2026

Just a random variety of pictures, some of which are duplicates of the ones from yesterday. It was cloudy all day, so I did not have the backlighting and shadows problem as much.

Metalwork with a book. On left page, an owl. On right page, „Wissen ist Macht“

Knowledge is power

Metalwork with head of an ox and a plow. The plow has a gold-coloured plowshare.
Metal bootscraper

I think this is a boot scraper.

Large watercolor-style painting. Atleft, several men walking. At right, a tree branch and a woman holding a figurine
stone carving of a reclining woman
Rectangular “arch” with bronze eagle at top. Text in English, Russian, and French: To those who died for the freedom of Austria

Memorial to those who died for the freedom of Austria

Woman holding a mirror

More mosaics.

Mosaic with a clock face
Triumphal arch with Latin inscription in stone

I think this photo of the triumphal arch came out better than the previous ones.

Stone carving of gnome-like figure. He is looking to the left.
Two stone dragons with human faces (one male, one female), holding a scroll with German words on it.
Pestsäule with Mary at top and religious figures at base.
Church with pink facade.

This is the Spitalskirche

Stone sculpture of man in medieval clothing, holding a flower.
Metalwork sign; in middle a gold flower.

Das Goldenes Dachl (The Golden Roof)

Although it is called The Golden Roof, the tiles are actually copper.

Small roof over a balcony; roof has gold-leaf shingles.

Der Stadtturm (City Tower)

In the same area as the Goldenes Dachl is the city tower. It has two spiral staircases: one for going up to the top, another for coming down. This way you don’t have the problem of a traffic jam with only one stairway.

Up at the top, I met a couple of people from Argentina who wanted me to take their picture, and they offered to take mine, so finally I have some photos of myself on one of my trips! It was interesting speaking Spanish with them; I kept switching back over to German, which is weird, given that my Spanish is much better than my German.

View of staircase from top of tower
view of city; church in center with two spires at left and dome at right
Houses in foreground, mountain in background.
Plaza as seen from top of tower. At right, Goldenes Dachl.
Man in glasses with English driver’s cap. In background, church and mountains.

Signage/Graffiti

The white L in the blue square is the “student driver” sticker in Austria.

Logo for Easy Drivers Driving School. Has a tangram-shaped man holding the letter L (for learner) at an angle

Do you have a moment for us? Then see the other side! (The other side has a QR code that lets you upload your Innsbruck moments.) I really like the font.

INNS’ / BRUCK at top and bottom. In middle: Hast du einen Moment für uns? Dann schau doch mal auf die andere Seite!

If this is paradise on Earth, I can hardly wait for hell.

Wenn das Paradies auf Erden ist, kann ich die Hölle kaum erwarten

The small print reads AMA (some organization) Regional Heroes. „Erdapfel“ is Austrian German for potato; in Germany it is called „Kartoffel“. Don’t ask me how that happens. The sticker at the top right says you can order one of the limited edition posters.

Poster of Potato, with text Regional Hero. Sticker at top right says you can order the poster, limited edition.

Kami Katze Kitchen (Küche); a very inventive logo for a Japanese restaurant.
