Your First Sentence
Now that we have nouns, pronouns, and a verb, we can form a complete Greek sentence:
Αυτό είναι το μολύβι.
Which means, literally, “It is the pencil.” Luckily for us, the personal pronouns also do double duty as the word this, so we can say the sentence in English as “This is the pencil.” No, it’s not like reading Aristotle in the original, but it’s a start!
See if you can figure out what these sentences mean in English. You may have to guess at one or two words; they sound a lot like the English equivalents.
Αυτές είναι οι στέγες.
Ο άντρας είναι ένας ράφτης.
Εγώ είμαι ένας φιλόσοφος.
