“Hotel” Word Origin
Wow! ξενοδοχείο is quite a mouthful. How on earth did the Greeks come up with such a long word for “hotel?”
Well, ξένος means “stranger,” and
δοχείο means “place” or “receptacle.”
And what is a hotel, or ξενοδοχείο, other than a place where strangers stay when they visit.
