The First Letter
Α α
The first letter that you see above is the first
letter of the Greek alphabet. The one on the left
is the capital letter, and the one on the right is
the small letter. It's a vowel, and
it's pronounced like the a in father,
or like what you say when the doctor tells you to
open your mouth and say “Aaah.” It is
never pronounced like the vowel sound in
hat or cake!

Of course, vowels alone do not an alphabet make. Let's move on to a couple of consonants.
