Kunsthaus Graz

Finally got to the modern art museum (Kunsthaus Graz).

The first exhibit was sort of meh, with only one photo worth taking:

hanging tapestries

Things got a bit more interesting on the other floors, though. Here are some links to the exhibits you see in these photos: Freeing the Voices and Poetics of Power

Stitched cloth showing two workers and one person lounging.

While the worker works, the poor man enjoys himself

Aluminum cans on tripods

There were small speakers in these cans; if you came close, you could hear them emitting sounds.

Green and blue rock-like sculptures hanging from ceiling.
tapestries with words on them
wheelchair with antenna
Women in Eastern European dress around a table; they are singing, and one is playing an accordion.
interior top floor

This was an interesting piece: the black cloth is surrounded by black pieces of wood with gold lettering. They go in sequence, though I did not photograph all of them. (Sorry about some of them not being in focus.)

And this is what it looks like from inside...

chain mail vest
round conference table

The sections in this table had papers from political movements. Here’s a detailed description.

Restroom entrance with HUMANS spray-painted on door in pink

Yes, the spray paint on the restroom door is intentional.

This isn’t a mirror; it’s a photo of a mirror.

Other Art Pieces

“To Set Free”: The artist took coins and separated the inner part from the outer ring.

to set free

One of two somewhat odd pieces. This one shows a woman named Selma Selman, walking down a street in Washington, D.C. on election day in 2020, yelling “You have no idea!” (See a short video clip)

Another film was part of a performance piece by Marina Abramović: Freeing the Voice (1975), which was the artist lying on her back and screaming continuously for three hours. (See a short video clip)
