Graz–Mar. 2, 2025

Back in Graz. In case you are wondering what it is like being in Europe, here’s a post from a fellow whose screen name is “Blippy the Wonder Slug” (@BlippyTheWonderSlug@ieji.de). He lives in Cologne, Germany, but the feeling works here.

I'm sitting in the park on the grounds of a medieval vinter's guild hall, in a medieval village; a resident from 1600 would know immediately where they are. (The layout of the major streets in town dates back to Roman times, and many of the houses houses along them have foundations from the 11-1600s) The sun shines bright.

An electric bus hums to the bus stop and sighs. Passengers get on, it hums off. Electric assist bicycles glide in both directions.

It's kinda surreal.

Schloss Eggenberg

I rode my bike out to Schloss Eggenberg; the castle interior is closed, but the park around the building is open.

Front view of Eggenberg Castle
trees in park
Top of castle with red spire
carving of shield
oddly shaped tree branch
row of columns along hedge
lake
peacock with blue head and green tail
tree closely covered with leaves

This is the „Taschentuchbaum 🇦🇹“ (“handkerchief tree”). The blooms look like handkerchiefs, but it’s not spring yet....

carved cherubim
wooden building with thatched canopy

Graffiti / Miscellanea

I rode around some more and found myself back in the Smart City area, where I encountered some wall art that I had not seen before:

cartoon rooster graffiti
cartoon fox graffiti
graffiti abstract person with four faces
graffiti
graffiti seated man with black helmet
crocodile under basketball hoop
circular window with yelllow frame

Also, this cool-looking window.
