Düsseldorf

These two reliefs are at the entrance to the train station; hadn’t noticed them before.

I met a couple of Americans who were going to Köln (Cologne). At the platform, they asked me if they were on the right platform, and said they couldn’t find their destination—Cologne— anywhere. I pointed to the schedule where it said Köln, the German name for the city, and said “This is the right place.“ I hadn’t realized how confusing it might be for someone who didn’t know about the difference in names.

Kölner Dom (Cologne Cathedral)

I had 45 minutes between trains, and the cathedral is right outside the train station, so I decided to get some pictures. The Kölner Dom is an incredibly impressive structure, and these pictures give only a hint of the level of detail.

There is a much smaller church located nearby; I sort of felt sorry for it having to live in the shadow of the Dom, so I took a picture of it.

Brussels

I got to Brussels on time, and after a bit of hunting around for the correct Metro stop, got to the hotel. The room is much larger than the one in Düsseldorf; I can turn around without bumping into a wall.

Here are some random pictures I took as I walked around near the hotel.

And then there was this utterly baffling statue.

Too bad I will miss the affordable art festival. And who knew that there was a Spongebob Squarepants movie.
