Las Vegas, NV; 17 April 2011

Not too many pictures today; took a long bike ride from near Tropicana and Boulder Highway to the Suncoast Casino on the northwest side of Las Vegas. I saw a couple of old-style motel signs:

Sign for Lucky Cuss motel Blue sign for Motel Walden; sign has gold asterisk on top.

This caught my eye; not sure why.

Various cartoon characters on top of fence at “La PiƱata Loca” party supply company.

This hat shop had some clever advertising on its walls.

Sign for a hat shop along the motif of “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign. Blue alien advertising 2 hats for $25 on sign painted on wall of hat shop Green alien painted on wall of hat shop; thought balloon reads “Best deal in the universe!”

This was an odd sculpture, mixing old with new:

Sculpture of a plow with plowshares as curved silver arcs with spheres at end; cacti in foreground and background.

The area near Charleston and I-15 is an arts district; this award-winning building is now used for lofts and suites.

Former “Holsum Bread” store, now holds lofts and suites.

Finally, a couple of more signs. The first one is from a Carpeteria store; the second one wins today’s creative spelling award.

Statue of a guy in a turban atop a carpet store; store name is missing from sign. Misspelled sign for a “EUROPEON KOSHER CAFE”
