What if we were to “mark” each word with its function in the sentence? Then we could say either of these:

KayS seesV the catO.
The catO seesV KayS.

We’d always know which word was the subject and which one was the object. Then we could use word order as a matter of convenience rather than as a means of establishing who’s who. That’s exactly the approach that Korean takes.
