Things to Drink

Φ φ

This funny-looking foreign fellow is usually familiar only to folks who study a lot of math. It has the consonant sound in foot.

Hear the letter's sound: hear the sound
Hear the letter's name: hear the sound

And it's used in καφές hear the sound, which means coffee.

Γ γ

This is a consonant that has two different sounds. When it precedes ε or any of the ιηυ (etc.) sounds

it sounds like the y in yes.

When it precedes consonants or other vowels, it sounds like a rumbling sound at the back of your throat.

Hear the letter's sound (this is the throaty sound): hear the sound
Hear the letter's name: hear the sound

Examples:
  γάλα (milk) hear the sound
γύρος (gyros) hear the sound [Yeah, I know it's not something to drink, but I needed some food type word that had the proper combination of letters.]

Ζ ζ

The third consonant is much easier; it has the same sound as the consonant in zoo.

Hear the letter's sound: hear the sound
Hear the letter's name: hear the sound

We find it in ούζο hear the sound, a very popular Greek alcoholic beverage. This is a word that you can't use unless you're of drinking age!
