How to Type Greek

Here’s a picture of the Greek keyboard layout:

In Netscape Navigator 4.0 (other than Linux) and Internet Explorer 4.0 and above, you can simply type the keys. If you’re using Linux, you should use the Mozilla browser.

You can, of course, just click the keys in the image to produce the appropriate Greek characters.

When you finish typing, click the enter key on the keyboard diagram, or, during an exercise, click the Check answer button. Pressing the Enter key on your keyboard won't do anything.

Use the key in blue to put an accent (tonos) on the vowels. You click that key before you click the vowel. [The yellow key with the two dots is used in the infrequent cases when you need the two dots (diaerasis) above iota and upsilon.]

You can use the green arrow keys to move back and forth without erasing. This will let you add or delete letters in the middle of a word.

If your computer is set up correctly, you should be able to type or click on the keyboard above and see your Greek writing appear.
