River Cruise

We took a 100-minute cruise on the Main river. It was quite pleasant, but not too many great photo-ops. The harbor area is fairly industrial, so it was sort of like a tour of South San Francisco (the industrial city). Here are the pictures from the cruise. Hover over them for captions. Note: The Frankfurt area is also known for its apple cider.

Two of Frankfurt's oldest churches One of Frankfurt's skyscrapers Triumphant return of the beer bike! Old houses w. nice architecture A building in the form reminiscent of a cider glass Six swans swimming (seventh had day off) A fairly modern building Coal barge Another very nice old building We saw lots of rowing teams during the trip landscape Red sign Dock 2.0 Detail of the "compass bridge"

After the boat trip, we went to the Frankfurt Historical musem and saw an exhibit about Dr. Heinrich Hoffman, the man who wrote Der Struwwelpeter; this is a book my parents had when we were kids. It’s sorta creepy.

The musuem also had a display of the city after World War II and how it had been restored; that was quite interesting.

These last pictures are from the Altstadt (old city) near the dock. They look sort of like gingerbread buildings.
